Big Sur
Big Sur is the most important destination for Highway 1 roadtrips. It lies between the village of Carmel-by-the-Sea and Hearst Castle. This stretch is almost unreal with its dense groves of redwoods, fog that actually drifts through the air, and winding roads that cut through landscapes. It has cliffs that drop hundreds of meters and rocky coves and it is one of the best coastal highways in the world.

Highway 1 is very famous for the winding coastal views, along with the many sunny areas. If you look up while in the Pinnacles National Park, you may see a California Condor, which is North America’s largest and is currently considered an endangered species. If you are on an offshore trip, you may see migrating whales, Sea Otters in the Kelp forests, and the famous California Kelp Beds.

Yosemite National Park
Yosemite National Park is the most well-known in California’s many National Parks. Since it was established in 1864, it has seen visitors captivated by its powerful waterfalls, deep valleys, huge giant sequoias, and sharply carved granite peaks. One of Yosemite’s most famous landmarks is Half Dome, which is in a steep section of the park and is about 2,700 meters tall. El Capitan is the largest exposed granite monolith in the world and also draws climbers from all around the world. Visitors wishing to hike Half Dome need to register for the permit lottery.

Beginners do not need to sit out on this activity. Starting at 8:30 each morning, there are professional climbing classes that provide a good opportunity to develop new skills and push your limits. Local guides are available for more difficult routes for experienced climbers. If you prefer not to go climbing, there is still plenty to do in Yosemite. Yosemite Falls is one of the tallest waterfalls in North America. If you want something more peaceful, go to Mariposa Grove.
